The UNWTO launched the eighth edition of its Travel Restrictions Report which shows that “one in four destinations continue to keep their borders completely closed to international tourists”. While the recovery lasts, countries with iconic and natural destinations such as the New 7 Wonders will be the travellers top choice.
The report keeps track of the different measures taken in 217 destinations across the globe, as a way to support the mitigation and recovery efforts of the tourism sector. The latest edition shows that 152 destinations eased restrictions to tourism.
According to the study, destinations with “higher scores in health and hygiene indicators as well as on the environmental performance are among those which have eased restrictions faster”. On the opposite hand, destinations that keep their borders closed “tend to be within emerging economies with relatively low scores”.
