The UNESCO and the International Union of Architects designated Río de Janeiro as the first World Capital of Architecture for 2020. The Christ the Redeemer, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, is one of the architectural treasures the city will be celebrating.
The World Capital of Architecture is a title held by a city for 1 year, during which they organise a programme of events to celebrate architecture and built heritage, as well as to raise awareness about the key issues of architecture today.
Starting next July 19, and until July 23 2020, Rio de Janeiro will host the 27th edition of the International Union of Architects (UIA) World Congress of Architects. The Congress and exhibitions will be hosted at Pier Mauá, one of Rio de Janeiro’s largest event venues, covering 40,000 square metres at the heart of the Porto Maravilha.
